Butter London Fiddlesticks Swatch and Review

Today I have another beautiful Butter London to show you. I'm really enjoying all of my new Butter London polishes, which is sad because it's a bit of an expensive brand. I've gotten most of mine from swaps or used from friends so I have yet to pay full price for a bottle, and I'm not sure if I could fork out the $14 for a new Butter London (which are only 11 ml by the way, smaller than the standard 15 ml bottles).

I sure am talkative today... anyway, Fiddlesticks is a gorgeous magenta glitter. This one was on my wishlist for quite some time, and I'm so happy it's finally mine! The base color on this polish is opaque, but reminds me more of a matte than a jelly.

The formula on Fiddlesticks is what I'd call goopy. It's nice and opaque in two coats but it tends to want to dry while you are working with it and form clumps. It's fine if you work fast, but does have some issues. I also had issues with polish drying and clumping at the mouth of the bottle while I worked with it for this manicure. I'll be adding a few drops of nail lacquer thinner before I use this one the next time!

Fiddlesticks is also a top-coat eater (for anyone who isn't familiar with this term, it means I kept adding top coat to make it smooth and shiny and it kept becoming bumpy again as the top coat dried). I needed 4 coats of top coat to get it to smooth out. With all of the layers, the mani was pretty thick and chipped badly within a single day (which was quite disappointing to me since it looked so beautiful).

Blurry to show the sparkle:

Overall, gorgeous color and gorgeous glitter. It was worth it even if it only lasted one day. I can never have enough of these glitters!

  1. All that work...at least the pay off was such a good one! This is a stunningly gorgeous polish...suck that it didn't last very long. I don't think I would make the $14 investment for a one day-er! Uhhh Fiddlesticks!

    1. The pun.. so great! I was sad about the wear time, since I would have happily worn this polish for a few days. I think in the future I can remedy this by using a base color and just one coat of Fiddlesticks, it looks the same and requires less top coat so it's less prone to chipping! Thanks for commenting. :D

  2. The color is definitely beautiful. As for the "goopiness" ... did you get this polish in a swap? If so, do you think maybe it has been sitting for some time and this is why the consistency is so hard to work with?

    1. Nope, brand new shipped from Butter London! I've had this problem with Butter London glitters before since they dry very quickly and I tend to polish slowly to avoid cleanup. It wasn't a bad goopy, just required me to work quickly. :) The color is worth though it isn't it?

    1. That might be my fault.. I hate polishes with any texture at all, so I keep layering the top coat until it is 100% smooth and glossy. I was also expecting it to be smoother since it reminds me more of a microglitter polish (like Ruby Pumps).
