ManGlaze Fatty's Got More Blood Complete Review and a Comparison!

I've never been a fan of matte nail polish until recently, and now that I am ManGlaze is the brand to go to! The names are a bit vulgar (so if that offends you, I apologize but they're also pretty funny). These polishes are technically suedes, since they are matte polish with shimmer, but they're gorgeous!

Fatty's Got More Blood is a purple-toned blood red with silver shimmer.

The formula on this one was great! Opaque in two coats and fast drying, you just need to work quickly to prevent the polish from drying mid-nail.

Wear test!

Manglaze polishes wear amazingly well. Mattes have the reputation of chipping easily but I put this polish through the ringer and didn't get any tip wear what-so-ever! As the polish wore, it got a bit shinier, losing that inky matte look, see for yourself:

Dupe Test:

Since I've been on a matte-kick lately I thought it would be great to compare Fatty's Got More Blood with another of my newer mattes: Layla 07 Queen Bordeaux. They looked similar in the bottle but....

Index and ring: FGMB; Middle an pinky: Layla 07

No dupes here, although in indoor lighting they look a bit more similar. Layla Queen Bordeaux is a bit of a lighter red with gold shimmer rather than silver. The textures of these two polishes are also very different. ManGlaze is a true matte with a very fine grit texture while Layla Softouch polishes have a grittier texture (that is still soft) and are more sparkly. FGMB wears longer without showing tip wear, but Queen Bordeaux maintains the matte effect longer.  (Please ignore the strange mark on my middle finger, I got distracted part way through application and it left a little bump which I was too lazy to re-do!)

Are you a fan of matte/suede polishes or do you need your top coat? :)

Deborah Lippmann Let It Bleed - True Blood Forsaken Collection

The world didn't end today. :)

Not that I really thought it would.

In honor, here's one of my favorite gorgeous vampy polishes! Holiday manicures are everywhere right now, and while it's fun, I still love me a good swatch!

Deborah Lippmann Let It Bleed is part of the Forsaken True Blood collection. It is a gorgeous dark vampy creme, everything you'd expect out of a polish from a True Blood collection. The fun part about this polish is that it has the Forsaken fragrance (the polish scent is very close to the eu de parfum).

The only problem that I had with this polish was the wear time. I wore this manicure for about half a day before taking these photos and you can see all of the tipwear already. Now, I won't say I'm gentle on my hands/nails through the coarse of a day (quite the contrary) but comparing this polish to other brands (even other DL polishes) the wear time was quite horrible. You can see tipwear as well as scratches on the shiny finish. I feel that the addition of fragrance might be affecting the wear time, but since this is the only scented polish I can't say for sure.

I absolutely love this one. The Forsaken fragrance is so delicious and being a huge True Blood fan I absolutely love it!

OPI Every Month Is Oktoberfest

From fall's OPI Germany Collection, Every Month is Oktoberfest was my #1 pick. In my opinion, Oktoberfest was the biggest win in this collection (although as I continue to pick up more colors from this collection I realize that they were all pretty spectacular). I love seeing these dark vampy shimmers for fall and winter.

Every Month is Oktoberfest is a dark blueish-purple base with purple and glowing red-gold shimmer. It's such a hard color to describe since it's so absolutely gorgeous. Pictures can't quite capture this polish. It's so gorgeous and vampy without ever looking completely black. I love it.

Formula was fantastic, two smooth coats for complete coverage.

piCture pOlish Vampire

Another Halloween-esque polish for you tonight! This is piCture pOlish Vampire, the perfect, shiny, blood-red jelly. This is three coats with no top coat, the formula was amazing. Jellies are usually sheer but this was build-able and easy to control.

I chose this polish to share with you today since I'm sick and not functioning well enough to write intelligently. I don't have much more to say about this one other that it's gorgeous and the pictures speak for themselves.

Forsaken: Deborah Lippmann's Bad Things (True Blood!)

If you've been a follower of mine for a couple of months, you might know that I'm a huge fan of True Blood, in fact, I sponsored my first giveaway centered around the season 5 premiere. :D When I first learned that HSN was launching Forsaken, a True Blood themed fragrance, with Deborah Lippmann polishes to go along with it I was extremely excited;  I wanted to own everything. I ended up ordering the fragrance, Bad Things Deborah Lippmann mini nail polish set, and the matching nail and lip color also from Deborah Lippmann all as sort of an early birthday present to myself. The nail and lip color are supposed to be infused with the Forsaken fragrance so I can't wait to try those out! (Unfortunately mine are back-ordered.)

Forsaken
Just look at that gorgeous bottle.

I normally only talk about nail polish, but I'm also a bit of a fragrance hoarder. I have probably 30-40 different purfumes and body sprays. The Forsaken fragrance came in the mail yesterday, surprising me since  I just got the order confirmation yesterday morning. I wish I could write a proper review, but I'm not all that knowledgeable about fragrances so I won't pretend to be. All I can say is that I'm very happy with this scent. It's subtle yet deep, it's warm and musky, it fits the theme perfectly, yet something I could wear everyday. The bottle is to-die-for gorgeous. All vampy and mysterious.

Now on to the nail polish, which I'm sure you've all been waiting for.

Bad Things Nail Polish Trio

First up is New Flesh.

New Flesh is a beige toned nude jelly, sheer on the first coat but very buildable. The formula is very interesting because it applied streaky, but dried smooth and flawless. I thought it was going to be a disaster at first but I was pleasantly surprised. The nice thing about having a nude jelly is that it's much more likely to match your skin tone.

Strange Love is what I'd consider a 'crelly' finish. On first coat it looks and applies like a jelly, but it's easily opaque in two coats like a creme. This color is absolutely gorgeous. This is the shade I was looking forward to the least and it turned out to be my favorite. It has a very slight subtle shimmer that's hard to see and nearly impossible to photograph but it just makes this polish so beautiful. It also has a killer shine. This one is
with no top coat.

Bad Blood is a sheer dark blood red jelly. I think it's described as sheer black cherry, but in my mind it's a bloody plumb, a bit more purple than it is red. Regardless, it's dark and vampy and very pretty. When the description says sheer they mean sheer. This one reminds me a lot of the pictures I've seen of the Zoya Gloss collection. This is four coats, but I easily could have gone on and done five or six. My only issue with this is the fact that it's only available in a mini bottle, so one opaque mani takes a lot of that little bottle.

Overall I'm very happy with Forsaken. I mainly purchased it as the novelty of having True Blood themed fragrance and polish (I've got a classic Fangtasia t-shirt in my closet) but I can see myself wearing all of these colors. Bad Blood would make great jelly sandwiches (I might have to try that soon) and I will wear Strange Love any day!

Did you order or consider ordering Forsaken? Have you ever ordered nail polish just as a novelty item?

Maybelline Color Show Dressed to Kill Swatch

In celebration of my favorite TV show returning for the 5th season later tonight (Sunday 9pm) I've sponsored a giveaway of some great vampy colors. Today is your last chance to enter my giveaway!

In addition to the end of my giveaway at midnight tonight I've got a bunch of great vampy swatches to show you today.

Something about the shape of the Maybelline Color Show bottles just makes me want to own all of them... I picked up Dressed to Kill a couple of days ago. Dressed to Kill is a dark brownish-red crelly (applies like a jelly but opaque like a creme). The photos below are two coats with no top coat because the polish is so incredibly shiny on its own.

Definitely a dark vampy red. It's so dark it looks almost black.

Have you picked up any of the Maybelline Color Show polishes? They aren't the most polish for your dollar but I love those bottles.

Bloody Nail Art!

To start here's some nail art I did with a vampire inspiration.

I started with a clear base coat and one coat of Essie Mademoiselle. Then I used a blood red franken (which you will be seeing on its own in a couple of hours if you stay tuned) and did a very rough tip to the nails. Using a dotting tool (well the end of an old paintbrush) I started with a dot of red half way up the nail and then carefully dotted and dragged the polish down until it met the red tip.

The trick with this mani is to make sure that it's uneven. Every "drip" of red needs to be different and every nail has to be different in order to create the imagery of dripping blood.

Although I'm not entirely happy with how this turned out, I think it looks great for a first attempt at a drip manicure. I could do a tutorial of this if anyone is interested. Until then--stay tuned for more posts today!

My True Blood Inspired Mani

So recently I've been re-watching all of HBO's True Blood series getting ready for season 5. If you're a fan of the show you may have noticed that the only character who paints her nails is Jessica (one of my favorite characters). In one episode she had on a gorgeous vampy (how appropriate) dark red many. I just had to copy!

For this I used China Glaze Thunderbird, a dark red shimmer with a hint of purple. Application is sublime and the wear was great. In this busy week I wore Thunderbird for THREE DAYS! (with only minimal tip wear). I love shimmers that look dark around the edges but bright and firey in the center. It's such a pretty color and one of my new favorites!

Lastly, a quick comparison if anyone is curious like I was: A England Percival (right) vs. China Glaze Thunderbird (left).

True Blood Season 5 is slated to premiere June 10th! Rumor is that Russell Edgington will be back, and I'm sure sex, blood, and violence will ensue. But will Sookie go back to Bill or stay with Eric? Will we be introduced to Quinn?

I'm a huge fan of the books, but I still love the show (I consider them like two different entities). After all, who can take a good look at Eric Northman and not fall deeply in love with him *cough* *cough* I mean the show!
