Blue Nails for the #31DC2018Weekly

Howdy!

It only took 5 weeks before I broke out my old standard, the skittlette.  This have been one of my most favorite nail art ideas of all time.  I generally do my skittlette manicures with two plain nails, two nails with nail art on them and then a textured accent nail.  You can do them in any way that you like as long at two nails are the same.  For the blue prompt this week, I combined light blue and pink together with some unicorn fun.  Let's take a look!

Howdy!

Happy Labor Day to all my American friends!  I hope you didn't have to work today.  Even though I did not have to work today, I am spending the day catching up on work.  It never ends!  I am also catching up on the #31DC2017Weekly.  Today, I have a nail art look inspired by fashion.  Specifically, fashion outfits worn by Kit Harington and Rose Leslie at the Season 7 premier of Game of Thrones this summer.  I love Game of Thrones so much and was in a bit of a depression this weekend because the season is over.  So what better way to deal with it than to do some nail art inspired by the series.  Kit and Rose are a real life couple that met on set playing love interests.  How cute is that!?!?  And...they looked great together a the premier.  My manicure is a skittlette that brings both of their outfits together as one.

Glitter Nails for the #31DC2017Weekly

Hi folks!

I have a quick little purple skittlette manicure to share with you all today.  I combined some textures and glitter placement for this look.  It is quite simple but still gives a cool effect once it is all put together.  I think a lot of ladies use glitter placement for this prompt in the challenge.  I know I usually do!

Polka Dot Nails for the #31DC2017Weekly

Hey there!

Another late post for the challenge but I have been super sick for the past 4 days and just couldn't drag myself into the polish room to paint.  But I am on the upswing now, so get ready for a bombardment of nails!   This week, we are starting with the design prompts for the challenge.  The first prompt is always the easiest, Polka Dots.  I think dotticures are the first nail art designs that people attempt when they are starting out doing more than just painting their nails.  They can be anything from simple little double side dots to more intricate mosaic patterns.  For me, I like simple.  So I did a gradient of dot sizes down the side of my nails for a fun little skittlette mani.

Wintry Butterfly Skittlette

Hi friends!

Today, I have a quick little nail art to share with you all.  I did this mani on a whim trying out some new nail art vinyls from Whats Up Nails and just loved it so much that it needed it's own post.  Vinyl nail art stencils have taken over the world.  They make complicated nail art so simple that anyone can use them and still get a good mani.  Beginner or expert nail artist...no problem.  Whats Up Nails has so many patterns to chose from that is can be overwhelming.  Usually, I have a set idea of a manicure in my head and then find the tools and polishes to make it.  But this time, I let the pattern of the vinyls guide me.  I saw these delicate butterfly vinyls and got a vision of crystalline butterflies flitting about in the the snow and ice.  Like a wintry butterfly garden with snowflakes and ice flowers all around.  (what can I say, I miss the snow and winter isn't winter without it. there's no winter in Florida)  So this manicure organically happened out of my longing for snow and ice.

Teal holographic skittlette mani

Hey all!

I have a quick little post tonight about my awesome #notd (nails of the day).  I just threw this together at the last minute and was very pleased with the results.  Usually, I would just share this on my Instagram page but I felt it was totally cool enough for it's own blog post.

Skittlette with Dainty Digitis, KBShimmer and Misslyn - McPolish

The base is a beautiful blue leaning teal linear holographic from Dainty Digits Nail Polish called "As Blue As Neptune".  This was my first time reviewing/trying this brand and so far, I am a fan.  Just two coats and it was completely opaque, great formula.  My textured pinkie bling is Misslyn Satellite War which is a silver based texture with green and teal glitters sprinkled in.  This is one of my favorite textured polishes.  Thanks, Lotte, for sending it to me all the way from Germany!

Skittlette with Dainty Digitis, KBShimmer and Misslyn - McPolish

Normally, I would have added some stamping and been done.  But I decided to try out some of water slide decals from KBShimmer.  These have a clear background with a silvery grey delicate design.  It looks raised but I don't feel any bumpiness when the top coat is applied.  These Silver Lacy Swirl Water Decals come in a single sheet which you can cut out the sizes you need for you nails.  I used it on four nails for this manicure and only used up 1/4 of the sheet.  (Obviously, my nails are small so if you have longer nails you will get less uses out of the sheet)

Skittlette with Dainty Digitis, KBShimmer and Misslyn - McPolish

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed this mani and it is the type of nail art I wear the most often.  Skittlette all the nails!  I just love them,  If you want to see more of my skittlette manicures, just check out my tag on Instagram #McSkittlette.

I hope you have a lovely week!

Yellow Nails for the #31DC2016Weekly

Hi friends!

Sorry, I am a little late with the challenge post this week.  I was away from my computer over the weekend and didn't get this post together quick enough to schedule it to post on Saturday.  Oopsie.  But don't worry, I have a cute little skittlette mani to share with you for the prompt 03: Yellow Nails!  I had attempted to do some cool magnetic blob nails for you but they turned out to be a utterly awesome #nailfail.  So, I just went with a tried and true skittlette.

Red Nails for the #31DC2016Weekly

Happy Saturday!

Today is the first day of my weekly version of the 31 Day Nail Art Challenge.  Each Saturday I will be posting a manicure inspired by the 31 prompts in the challenge.  See my previous post about the #31DC2016Weekly here.  This challenge is to push me back into doing more nail art.  I have seriously slacked off of my nail art game for the past several months and I want to remedy that.  Doing challenges like this also forces me to think out of the box and to use some of my nail art supplies that I have ignored.

For the prompt, Red Nails, I decided to break out the many baggies and nail art wheels of fimo.  Honestly, I have never actually used fimo in a nail art look before even though I have a good number of them.  So, I picked out some little strawberry slices and created this skittlette mani!

Red Nails for the #31DC2016Weekly - Strawberry Fimo - McPolish

The red creme polish is Mary Kay "Radiant Red" and the sparkly green is Lavish Polish "Guardian of Thunder" (read my review of this polish here).  The strawberry slice fimo was from a little wheel of fimo fruit that I picked up from 5 Below.

This is a simple look but I am easing back into the nail art world.  Fair warning...be prepared for a lot of skittlettes.  I just love doing them and they allow me to use several polishes in one mani.

Yay!  First prompt is done!  Next week we will have a look at Orange Nails.  If you are joining in on my weekly journey, go ahead and leave your blog name in the comments so I can go check out your looks each week.  If you want to see everyone else's manicures for this weekly challenge, check out the tag #31DC2016Weekly on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

Born Pretty Store - Artistic Vortex Water Decals

Hello there!

Today, I have a fun and easy skittlette mani to share with you all using some polishes from P2 Cosmetics and water decals from Born Pretty Store.  As you are well aware, I love me some skittlette nails!  If you don't know what a skittlette mani is, head over the master her self, ChitChat Nails, for a great tutorial.  I always like to use a textured polish in my skittletes :)

Skittlette mani with Born Pretty Store water decals by McPolish

For this simple mani, I used some water decals sent to me from Born Pretty Store.  I just loved the abstract nature of these swirly patterns and the colors felt very retro to me.  I chose polish colors that would compliment the colors in the decal designs.  The saturated teal creme is P2 "Hidden Mermaid" from the Volume Gloss line and the matte orange textured polish is P2 "Peach Icing" from the Crisp+color line.  I adore P2 polishes!  They are a German drug store brand are always impress me with their formulas.

The water decals are such an easy way to add a little extra something to your manicures.  If you can't hand paint but still want some fly nails, try a water decal.  All you need to do with soak the decal in water for approximately a minute, slide the paper backing off and place it on the nail.  Add a glossy top coat to seal it in and Ta Da!  Instant nail art.  Born Pretty Store has a ton of water decal to choose from.  This sheet of Artistic Vortex Pattern has several different patterns and is only $1.99.

You can get many manicures out of this one pack.  Especially if you are just doing accent nails like I am.  If you want to try out this water decal sheet or any of the other numerous water decals, head over the Born Pretty Store and place an order.  They ship worldwide and I have a 10% off coupon code you can use at check out: AVAW10

Polish Alcoholic - Nail Art with the Superheroes Collection

Happy Sunday!

Today, I have two super fun polishes to share with you all.  Polish Alcoholic has just released the Superheroes Collection which is a set of 6 polishes all inspired by comic book superheroes.  I was sent two from this collection for review and I just loved them.  I hope you do too!

First up we have "Magneto", a shimmery blurple polish.  This was a little sheer and did take three coats for full opacity.  But the extra layers really give this duochrome dimension.  This polish really glows from within with a slightly red glow and a blue to purple shift.  So pretty!  I don't think I have anything else like this in my collection (and that is a feat!).  I added some sliver and purple rhinestones to create a little gem flower double accent nail.

The other Superheroes polish sent was called "Loki" and again, super unique to my collection.  "Loki" is a brown based shimmery duochrome polish that has a striking green flash and a red/pink shift.  You know when you have a hard time describing what I am seeing in a polish, it's gonna be awesome!  Like Magneto, Loki was a little sheer and I used 3 coats to build opacity.  I used Loki in a little green and brown skittlette mani.  The stamping was done with Mentality Nail Polish "Green Opaque" and MoYou London Suki 07 plates.  The textured polish on my pinkie is OPI "What Wizardry is This?".

I am in love with these polishes...are you?  It is difficult to give me a polish that I don't already have something similar in my collection, but Sabrina did it.  Be sure to check out the rest of the collection in the Polish Alcoholic shop and let me know which ones you ended up ordering. :)

Scratch Nail Wraps

Hello!

Have you ever used nail wraps or polish strips?  I haven't.  I have used water decals and  nail stickers but never a full wrap in the place of polish.  So, I was thrilled to be able to try out Scratch Nail Wraps after seeing so many cool designs all over Instagram.  Since this was my first time, I decided to just use them in the way they were intended: cover the nail completely.  You can use a wrap on every finger for a full mani, but I like a good skittlette so I added in some textured polish for this look.  I chose gold to match the small gold centers of the graphic flowers.  This look was simple and easy and took no time at all (even for a first time user like me!).

Scratch Nail Wraps - McPolish

Here is the packaging.  It is clean and graphic, which I like.  The front window is open with the wraps sealed in a wrapper inside.  But the tools are free floating.  So take care in putting the wrapped wraps (yes, that was on purpose) in front of the tools so they don't fall out of the window inadvertently.  There are not specific instructions on the back of the packaging but there is a link their website with both written and picture instructions.

Scratch Nail Wraps - McPolish

Inside this little nail wrap kit, you will find two strips of nail wraps, a small nail file and a small orange wood stick.  The nail wraps are two strips sealed in another wrapper.  Each strip has 8 different sized wraps to fit almost all nail sizes.  In this package, you can see there are navy colored wraps and a few accent nail wraps in lavender.  These wraps are obviously longer than my little shorties, but they would be long enough if you had medium to long nails.  The only odd thing about these wraps is that the curved edge was not very straight or consistent from wrap to wrap.  I know not every one's nails beds are perfectly curved but I would like the illusion that they were if I was using these wraps.  The good thing that that you can cut them to fit your curve better if needed.  I was also able to smooth the edge away with acetone and a clean up brush once they were applied just like regular polish.

Scratch Nail Wraps - McPolish

I chose three wraps that fit my nail beds the best.  There are two protective plastic coatings, one on top and one on the bottom, on each wrap.  Once you take both of these off you can place the sticky side right on your bare nail.  I was able to lift the wrap off my nail and reposition without trouble.  I used my finger and the orange wood stick to smooth the edges of the wrap down all around the nail bed.  I did not experience any bubbling.  I used the nail file to remove the excess wrap from my free edge.  I did make the mistake of pull the excess off without completely filing it away.  You can see my little oopsie on the corner of my thumb nail.  So be gentle when removing the excess.  I top coated the wraps and it did not affect the look of the wraps.

Scratch Nail Wraps - McPolish

Overall, I am pretty happy with this first experience!  Even though the design on this set was not mind blowing and one that I could easily have done on my own, I would definitely try the more intricate designs in the future.  I think these are an easy way to get a fun accent nail or fancy full manicure without a lot of effort.  I was not able to wear test these as I just can't seem to keep a manicure on for more than 24 hours these days.  But I have heard through word of mouth that they wore well.

So have you tried out nail wraps before?  Have you tried this brand?  If you have tried them and other brands I would love to hear how you think they compared.  If you would like to try them out for yourself, check out the website www.goscratchit.com and look at all the amazing designs.  You can purchase designs as you would like or sign up for their monthly mani box with limited edition designs sent to your house each month!

31 Day Nail Art Challenge: Final Week Roundup

Wow!  I can't believe I finished this entire challenge.  And on time!

I had such a fun time doing the challenge this year.  I am quite please with myself that I completed it.  Like I had stated earlier, I fell off the challenge last year around week three.  So I was very exited to get to this last week (or 10 days to be exact) because I didn't get to these prompts last year.  These last challenge themes are all inspired by art and movies and other nail art.  I attempted a lot of hand painting this last week and I hope that you like my newbie skills.  Let's get right into it as there are 10 looks this time.

31 Day Nail Art Challenge: Week 3 Roundup

Hey there, friends!

The third week has been tackled and all of the hard prompts are left!  I am very happy to have made it through this far.  It hasn't been too bad!  Now last year, I fell off the #31dc2013 wagon on Day 23 (which is tomorrow!!).  So I am even more determined to push on through to the end this year.  The last week of prompts is a little more challenging and requires a bit more creativity to come up with new nail art ideas that you haven't already done this month yet.  But this third week is fun!  The prompts are more specific.  So even if you can't think of some creative twist, you can always fall back on the standard nail art technique for the prompt that day.  Enough blabbing...onto some nail art!

Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July to all of my followers from the USA! I had big plans to do nail art for today, but they fell through along with my busy schedule. Last July I wasn't terribly talented when it came to nail art, and I'm confident I could do better than last year given the time! What I did do for today was add some nail foils and striping tape to a red manicure for a patriotic skittlette manicure!

The red is Pretty Serious Hell on Wheels (swatches on that polish coming soon). The blue nail foil also looks much prettier in person, it looks grainy in texture here for some reason, but in person it is very holographic and gorgeous. I'm getting a bit better at the nail foils and there's hardly any wrinkles this time. I also wish it didn't highlight how short my ring finger nail is after an unfortunate break, but that's life. :)

Overall, this is a sad quick manicure for a busy schedule, what do you think?
